The baby quail's declaration of truth as a forest fire reached its nest, from the Cariyāpiṭaka, with meanings
Atthi loke sīlaguṇo, saccaṁ soceyyanuddayā;
Tena saccena kāhāmi, saccakiriyamanuttaraṁ.
Meaning
There is the quality of virtue in the world, and truth, purity and kindness. By that truth I will make an unsurpassed declaration of truth.
Āvajjitvā dhammabalaṁ, saritvā pubbake jine;
Saccabalamavassāya, saccakiriyamakāsahaṁ.
Meaning
Reflecting on the power of the Dhamma, remembering the victors of the past, and relying on the power of truth, I made a declaration of truth.
Santi pakkhā apatanā, santi pādā avañcanā;
Mātāpitā ca nikkhantā, jātaveda paṭikkama.
Meaning
I have wings that cannot fly, I have feet that cannot walk. My mother and father have fled. Fire, turn back!
Saha sacce kate mayhaṁ, mahāpajjalito sikhī;
Vajjesi soḷasa karīsāni, udakaṁ patvā yathā sikhī;
Saccena me samo natthi, esā me saccapāramī.
Meaning
As I declared the truth, the great blazing flames drew back sixteen karīsas, like flames that meet water. Nothing equals my truthfulness: this is my perfection of truth.
